Distribution ERP for inventory, purchasing, and warehouse control
A distributor needs one operating flow from quotation and customer pricing through purchasing, receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, shipping, returns, invoicing, and inventory accounting. Odoo ERP can connect that flow while preserving the controls each warehouse and finance team depends on. The design should be tested with representative products, locations, suppliers, customers, units of measure, routes, and exceptions. Clean master data and agreed ownership matter as much as the software configuration.
Product and pricing foundation
Validate product variants, units, packs, customer price rules, supplier terms, lead times, reorder data, and accounting categories before transactions are migrated.
Purchasing and replenishment
Test forecast demand, minimum and maximum rules, request-for-quotation controls, purchase approvals, supplier changes, partial receipts, backorders, and emergency buying.
Multi-location warehouse execution
Map receiving, quality checks, putaway, internal transfers, picking, packing, shipping, cycle counts, and returns across warehouses, yards, counters, or vehicle stock.

A distribution ERP should be validated with normal orders and difficult exceptions, including partial fulfilment, substitutions, returns, delayed supply, and stock discrepancies. The first release should stay as close to standard Odoo as the approved workflow allows.
Distribution workflows to test in Odoo 20
Run each test in a staging database loaded with your own products, suppliers and customers. A workflow passes when the result matches what your warehouse lead and your accountant expect to see.

Canadian distribution details to settle before go-live
Each of these settings depends on Canadian tax or customs rules, so confirm it with your accountant or customs broker before the first live order.
Sales tax follows the delivery province
GST/HST is charged at the rate of the place of supply, which for goods you ship is the province where they are delivered. Odoo's Canadian localization includes a fiscal position for each province and territory. Set the matching provincial fiscal position on each customer record, leave it blank for customers who collect at your counter, and have your accountant approve the tax mapping.
Imports through CBSA and CARM
CBSA assesses duties and taxes on commercial imports through CARM, and import GST is calculated on the value of the goods plus duties. Load duty, brokerage and freight onto the receipt as landed costs so inventory value carries them; this needs FIFO or average costing. Ask your broker which charges belong in cost and how border GST is recorded.
Buying in US dollars
If you buy from US suppliers, activate USD, issue purchase orders and record bills in US dollars, and schedule automatic rate updates. Odoo posts the gain or loss to the exchange difference accounts when payment clears at a new rate. CBSA converts invoice values at the rate from the date the goods began their journey to Canada, so expect that rate to differ from your bill.
Selling into Quebec
Taxable sales in Quebec carry 5% GST and 9.975% QST, which Revenu Québec administers, and some suppliers outside Quebec must register for the QST. Assign the Quebec fiscal position to those customers. The Charter of the French language requires invoices and receipts to be drawn up in French, so set French on each Quebec contact and check a test invoice.
