Certified Odoo Implementation Partner
Odoo 20 puts AI inside the ERP. AI agents answer from your own documents and act on records, AI server actions make decisions inside automations, and the Odoo MCP server lets assistants such as Claude or Codex work in your database with each user's permissions.
Solvync, a Calgary-based Odoo partner, scopes, configures, and tests Odoo AI against your real workflows, starting with the AI provider key, the sources each agent may use, and the tools it may run.
Odoo 20 AI
Odoo's AI works inside the apps your team already uses. These are the capabilities Odoo documents for version 20.0, and the ones Solvync configures and tests for Canadian businesses.
Press Ctrl + K or click the AI button on any screen to ask a question, open a view, or draft and improve text, then send the answer as a message or log it as a note.
Each agent has a system prompt, skills with tools that take actions, and sources it reads: PDFs, web links, Documents files, and Knowledge articles. Restrict to Sources keeps its answers inside that material.
Inside an automation, the AI reads the situation and picks which tool to run with which values. The tool is ordinary server-action code that carries the business rules.
An external assistant that speaks Model Context Protocol, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, or Antigravity, connects at your database address plus /mcp and can query data or run the tools you expose.
Folders in the Documents app carry their own AI prompt, so incoming invoices, contracts, and forms are classified, moved, and handed to the next business action.
Support agents draft replies grounded in your knowledge sources, and a live chat agent answers common questions, qualifies visitors, creates leads, and hands the conversation to a person when it should.
A Studio AI field fills itself from the record's context, and an AI prompt inside an email template is evaluated for each recipient, so one template sends a personal message to every customer.
Record a meeting or dictate a note, and Odoo writes the transcript and a summary of decisions and action items. The audio is discarded once the transcript is done.
The image generation agent creates product and website visuals from a prompt, and in Manufacturing, Odoo AI can write the step-by-step instructions for a work-order operation.
Agentic ERP
Yes. An agentic ERP lets AI take actions on business records, inside guardrails, instead of only answering questions. In Odoo 20, agents use tools that create and update records, AI server actions let the AI choose which tool to run inside an automation, and the MCP server lets approved outside assistants run the same tools. Agents and AI server actions first appeared in Odoo 19; Odoo 20 adds the MCP server and brings AI into more apps.
Setup
Most Canadian Odoo customers run Odoo.sh or their own servers, where AI needs a few things in place first. Solvync works through this checklist with every client.
| Requirement | Why it matters | Who owns it |
|---|---|---|
| An OpenAI or Gemini API key | Odoo.sh and on-premise databases need the business's own key before any AI feature runs. On Odoo Online the key is optional. | Your company owns the key and the provider account. Solvync connects it. |
| The AI app installed | Some AI features work without it, but custom keys and choosing the provider for a specific agent require it. | Solvync |
| Curated sources for each agent | Agents answer from the PDFs, links, Documents files, and Knowledge articles they are given, and sources need reprocessing after they change. | Your process owners supply them. Solvync structures them. |
| Tools with rules written into the code | When an AI server action calls a tool, the tool runs unconditionally unless its own code prevents it. | Solvync builds and tests them. |
| MCP access, per user | Each person generates an API key in My Preferences, the client machine needs Node.js, and only the server actions you expose are offered to the assistant. | Solvync sets the policy. Each user connects their own client. |
| Studio, only for AI fields | Odoo's documentation warns that installing Studio may change the pricing plan of the database. | You decide, after Solvync confirms it with Odoo. |
Use cases
AI earns its place on repetitive work with clear rules. These are the starting points Solvync scopes most often, each built from features Odoo 20 documents.
Route incoming bills and statements into the right Documents folders, draft payment reminders with AI prompts inside email templates, and ask Odoo to open the view you need in plain language.
Generate product descriptions with AI fields and product images with the image agent, and let an MCP-connected assistant answer stock questions through read-only data tools.
Have Odoo AI draft the instructions for each work-order step in a bill of materials, then review and approve them before operators see them on the shop floor.
Qualify website visitors with a live chat agent that creates leads, and give Helpdesk agents drafted replies grounded in your own documentation.
Delivery
One workflow at a time, with the rules written into the tools and a person reviewing what the AI does before it is trusted with more.
Start where the work is repetitive and the rules are known, such as vendor-bill intake, support triage, or quote follow-ups. Agree what the AI may read, suggest, and change.
Collect the documents the agent should rely on, set Restrict to Sources where answers must stay on policy, and check the access rights of every user who will run AI.
Write each tool as a server action that enforces its own business rules, then test it with real scenarios, including the requests it must refuse.
Run the pilot with a small team, read the conversations and the records the AI changed, adjust prompts and sources, and only then add the next workflow.
Governance
AI that can change records needs the same discipline as any other user with write access. These are the controls Solvync puts in place before a pilot starts.
Common Questions
Short answers to the questions Canadian teams ask before switching on AI in Odoo.
Odoo AI is the set of artificial intelligence features built into Odoo: Ask AI from any screen, AI agents with skills, tools, and sources, AI server actions inside automations, AI fields, AI in email templates, document sorting, Helpdesk and live chat agents, voice transcription, image generation, and in Odoo 20, an MCP server for external AI assistants.
Yes. Odoo 20 agents use tools that create and update records, AI server actions let the AI choose which tool to run inside an automation, and the Odoo MCP server lets outside assistants run approved tools. AI agents and AI server actions first appeared in Odoo 19. Odoo 20 adds the MCP server documentation and AI in more apps, such as work-order instructions in Manufacturing.
The Odoo MCP server lets an AI assistant that supports Model Context Protocol connect to an Odoo database at its address plus /mcp, using an API key the user generates in Odoo. The assistant can then query data or run the server actions the business has exposed, with that user's permissions.
Claude can connect through the Odoo MCP server, using Claude Desktop or Claude Code, and Odoo's documentation also covers Codex and Antigravity. Inside Odoo, the AI app runs on either OpenAI (ChatGPT) or Gemini as the AI provider.
Yes. Odoo.sh and on-premise databases need the business's own OpenAI or Gemini API key before AI features run. Odoo Online databases can use their own key, but it is optional.
Yes, through tools. A tool is a server action, and when the AI calls it, it runs unconditionally unless its own code blocks the action. That is why Solvync writes the business rules into each tool and tests what it should refuse before the tool goes live.
It can be configured safely. Use a company-owned provider key, keep each agent on the sources it needs, give AI users the same permissions as their normal role, expose MCP tools deliberately, and confirm with your privacy lead what personal information may be sent to the AI provider.
Not for every feature, since Odoo 19 already includes AI agents and AI server actions. The Odoo MCP server documentation starts with Odoo 20, so a business that wants external assistants working in its database should plan for Odoo 20. Solvync's version upgrade service covers that move.
Bring one repetitive workflow. You leave with a fit verdict, the setup it needs on your hosting, and the controls to put in place before a pilot.
